The Seamstress Basement, LLC is a privately owned, home-based seamstress service. Since clothing is a primary need, we recognise the benefits of owning well-fitted clothing that flatters each unique body shape and style. Our primary focus is women’s clothing. We also do alterations, children’s clothing, men’s wear, modifying of commercial patterns, accessories, totes, and more.

Our mission is to construct well-fitted, fashionable, handmade garments with our clients. We encourage our clients to bring their own patterns and fabrics of choice, or to use their own measurements to draft a personalised body sloper.
Through partnering with our clients, we construct clothing that fits well, flatters, and reflects each client’s personality and personal preference.
Draft it once. Use it for years.
A body sloper is a plain, fitted master pattern taken from your own measurements — no style lines, no seam allowance, just your shape in paper. Once yours exists, a dress, a jacket or a shirt can be drafted from it, and commercial patterns can be corrected against it instead of guessed at.
It is the single most useful thing most people can have made, and it is why fittings here take fewer rounds than you might expect.
